Holiday Cheer with the C Siblings – Even the Grumpy One!

One of the biggest myths about holiday mini sessions? That every kid will be all smiles from the start. It’s easy to imagine perfectly posed, cheerful faces—especially with festive setups like our “PJs and Cookies” set. But let’s get real: kids have their own ideas, and sometimes those ideas don’t involve smiling for the camera.

Take little Ethan here, for example. This adorable guy wasn’t exactly thrilled about being in front of the camera. Every “say cheese!” was met with a pout, and every request for a smile was countered with a big, heartfelt “NO.”

But here’s the secret: sometimes, the best photos come from embracing the moment rather than trying to create perfection.

Embrace the Unique Personality of Your Kids

Every child has their own personality, and that’s what makes family photos so special. Instead of aiming for a cookie-cutter pose, it’s all about working with the energy they bring.

For Ethan, we found that the best approach was to simply let him explore the set and engage with his siblings. By capturing the spontaneous, unplanned moments, we ended up with beautiful photos that truly reflect his personality.

Sometimes, patience is all it takes; other times, you just have to go with the flow and cross your fingers for that perfect shot! And honestly, those moments can be the ones that spark laughter for years to come—one more story to share around the Christmas table or at their wedding someday.

So, Worried About Your Child Not Cooperating? Here’s What You Should Know!

If you’re concerned about how your child will act during a mini session, try to relax and let us work our magic! Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  1. Set Realistic Expectations – Not every photo will be “picture-perfect,” and that’s okay! Holiday mini sessions are all about capturing the unique joy of your family as it is right now.
  2. Positive Reinforcement is Key – Let them know about a fun treat or outing planned afterward to keep them motivated during the session.
  3. Skip the Screens Beforehand – Try not to hand them a phone or iPad just before the session. Electronics can be tough to pry away and can make it harder for them to engage fully in the fun of the session.

At the end of the day, every photo tells a story, and sometimes the most challenging sessions make for the most memorable pictures. So, if your child’s not ready to pose perfectly—no worries! We’re here to capture the magic of the moment, exactly as it is.
